Work, Taxes, and Life

Work Ethics

Proverbs 12:24(NLT) Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and become a slave. Note: Those who follow the work principles of the Bible will have good success in this life and in the life to come. Hard workers become leaders. H.S.

Proverbs 16:3(AMP) Commit your works to the LORD [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance]. Note: The bible commentary says, We must maintain a delicate balance: trusting God as if everything depended on Him, while working as if everything depended on us.

According to “More time More profit” the average small business owner works 50 – 60 hours a week. Genesis 1:3-31 Shows us that our God worked six days a week.

Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

Paying Taxes

Our 40th President Ronald Reagan “We don’t have a trillion-dollar debt because we haven’t taxed enough; we have a trillion-dollar debt because we spend too much.”

Matthew 22:15-22(MSG) …The Pharisees plotted a way to trap him (Jesus) into saying something damaging. They sent their disciples, with a few of Herod’s followers mixed in, to ask, “Teacher, we know you have integrity, teach the way of God accurately, are indifferent to popular opinion, and don’t pander to your students. So tell us honestly: Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?” 18-19 Jesus knew they were up to no good. He said, “Why are you playing these games with me? Why are you trying to trap me? Do you have a coin? Let me see it.” They handed him a silver piece.20 “This engraving—who does it look like? And whose name is on it?”21 They said, “Caesar.” “Then give Caesar what is his, and give God what is his.”22 The Pharisees were speechless. They went off shaking their heads.

Matthew 17:27…Go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee (Peter).

The Good Life

1 Peter 3:9(AMP) And never return evil for evil or insult for insult [avoid scolding, berating, and any kind of abuse], but on the contrary, give a blessing [pray for one another’s well-being, contentment, and protection]; for you have been called for this very purpose, that you might inherit a blessing [from God that brings well-being, happiness, and protection].

Pastor/Author David Jeremiah “If Jesus can live in you and you are no different than the world around you, something got short circuited because Jesus makes a difference.”

Philippians 4:8-9 (NLT) And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. 9 Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me (Paul)—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
